1. Which would recommend uPVC or Timber windows?
This is a very hard question to answer as both have very different attributes. Timber windows being more desirable
and uPVC being the cheaper option. We would suggest that it depends on the style of your home, if you live in very period home or in a conservation area then the option of having uPVC windows installed is very limited. Having timber windows installed in period properties is very good for adding value to your home because one of the many things potential buyers look for is originality. Our timber windows are very sophisticated and blend the original look with very modern performance. If your property was built 1980 or earlier then dependent on value and location you will probably find that a lot of other homes have uPVC windows installed and unless our customer was adamant about having timber windows installed then we would tend to go with uPVC, as it would tend to be more in keeping with the houses in around that area and would not really be effecting the house value.
2. What sort of warranties do your windows/doors come with?
Our uPVC window/door warranties are as follows:
10 year guarantee against any frame distortion. 10 year guarantee against our sealed units breaking down. 10 year guarantee against all window/door hardware
Our timber window/door warranties are as follows:
30 year guarantee against rot or fungal infection. 10 year guarantee against our sealed unit breaking down. 10 year guarantee against all window/door hardware. 10 year guarantee against our paint finish. 5 year guarantee against our stain finish
3. What is the difference between a composite door and a normal uPVC door?
The difference is massive. A normal uPVC door has a panel glazed into the door frame just like the glass on a normal window. Although now the majority of doors are glazed from the inside they are still quiet easily broken into as there is only a uPVC bead clipped into the door frame holding the panel in. Where as a composite door is a more robust design as it is just like any normal door and is made as a complete unit, normally made from a hardwood inner frame with injected thermally insulating polyurethane foam core (100% CFC free). Then covered by a 2 mm vinyl wood grain to give the effect of a real wood door. All our composite doors are secure by design .
4. Do you manage the whole job?
Yes, right from the very start everybody that represents our company is full employed by us. All our fitters are fully trained and extremely experienced in all types of glazing work. As a company this is very important to us we take pride in our work and like to keep a close relationship with our customers as 'word of mouth' is the most valuable form of advertisement.
5. Do you offer uPVC in any other colours?
Our Rehau uPVC is available in the standard white, rosewood, light oak but is also available in any RAL colour. We can also offer any colour with a wood grain effect finish. The most common at the moment are black frames with white sashes, most commonly seen on Tudor homes.
6. Are your timber windows all pre-finished or can we paint them ourselves?
We only supply factory-finished timber windows/doors because any untreated wood, such as the side of the frame or the rebate were the glass sits, comes into contact with water, it will in a matter of time cause severe problems to your new wooden windows. This is the massive advantage that our timber windows have over any product that a local joinery can offer hence why they wouldn't be able to offer the types of guarantees we can. The micro-porous paint we apply also is water based and therefore doesn't flake or peel, unlike oil based. So when it comes time to repaint there is no need for sanding down your windows, just reapply the paint supplied.
